  1. Outlined project description requests for the relevant people to write up (George)

  2. Did some of the last biographies (Rohan)

  3. Learning Views to modify the look of the homepage (George)

  4. Finished with newsletter template (George)

  5. Drafted “How To Apply” webpage (George)


Tasks for the coming week


  1. Add links on front page

  2. Add in custom formatting for newsletter to work in email

  3. Online app form

  4. Get sponsor logos

  5. Add in webpages for “About Us” and projects like “ESL Classes” “Women’s Issues” etc

  6. RSS feed setup

1. Made intro page for Bhutanese Refugee project (George)
2. Compiled list of links on refugee background (George)
3. Created skeleton email newsletter template (George)
4. Finished a majority of the intern bios (Rohan)
5. Found printer friendly module (Seif)
6. Drafted newsletter header image (Vikram)
7. Installed task scheduler - Poormanscron - for the site (George)

1. Finish pages for GIH project
2. Finish pages for BRE project
3. Finish intern application page
4. Make FAQs

Sewa Houston Web Design Report 7/6

  1. Got access to website and set up login for all the developers (George)

  2. Updated old website modules, and confirmed SMTP server functionality (George)

  3. Set up developer log for keeping track of what everyone does (George)

  4. Set up mailing functions on the site (George)

  5. Set up taxonomy categories for Sewa projects (George)

  6. Set up database backup for website (George)

  7. Planned webpages for the Get Inspired Houston project (Rohan & George)

  8. Wrote questionnaire for volunteer profiles (Rohan)

  9. Partially completed profiles for volunteers that submitted biographic info. (Rohan)

  10. Created webpages describing the Get Inspired Houston tab with the amount of content we have at the moment (George)


Tasks for the coming week



  1. Test HTML mail functionality

  2. Look into website backup

  3. Incorporate printer-friendly functionality

  4. Get RSS feed for newsletters, etc.

  5. Complete description for Bhutanese project

Other questions/comments:

There was a lull in the work due to a lot of the web team having personal/family issues as well as the July 4th holiday. Ranju is out of town, Seif is moving to a new place, and Vikram was on a family trip.

1. Tested and configured Drupal mailing list functionality (George)
2. Read, modified, understood Drupal theme, checked sample themes. (Seif)
3. Drafted volunteer/refugee information page (Ranju)
4. Talked with other teams for information (Vikram, Rohan)
5. Gathered summaries on each team in Get Inspired Houston (Vikram, Rohan)

Tasks for the coming week
1. Get access to Sewa Houston site. Give each developer customized user access.
2. Arrange system for logging each developer’s revisions
3. Complete newsletter template after testing Drupal newsletter functionality
4. Organize categories in anticipation for different types of content
5. Look into website backup

  1. Read, install, and modify different themes to suit Sewa-Houston website
  2. Create website with menus

Task completed (elaborate the details):

  1. Read on sunny_sky and vigilianty themes that supports drop-down lists.
  2. Modified Foliage theme header, replaced with one I made using photoshop.
  3. Website created with menus, but they do not support drop-down lists yet.

  1. Take a look on security for the website and RSS feed.

1. Meet up with other teams to gather information/pictures, and content.

2. Start editing the Bhutanese page using content from PR.

Task completed (elaborate the details):

1. Went to India House and interviewed the other three teams (Public Relations, Workforce Dev., Womens Rights) and gathered information to make summaries for each of the groups

2. Made and edited summary for the Public Relations group.

What are you planning to do next week (breakdown into tasks)

  1. Make a banner for the newsletter, modifiying the original one, using Adobe Photoshop.
  2. Make a Donate Button for the website, using Adobe Photshop
  3. Continue to work on the Bhutanese Empowerment Tab.

Web Team 6/20

Date: 6/20/2009

Tasks completed (and by whom):
1. (Seif, Ranju, George) Installed web server, database server, local host server on our computers.
2. Created mock website on our servers, with tabs for About, Contact, Get Inspired Houston, etc.
3. Installed and configured a theme on our servers.
4. Installed and used a list of program modules we will be using to develop the website.
5. (Vikram, Rohan) Got in touch with PR and Women’s Issues regarding web articles and pictures.
6. Made or started content on About Sewa, Get Inspired Houston, Bhutanese project.
7. Started requesting volunteers for biographical information.


Tasks for the coming week
1. Reserving domain names for future Sewa projects.
2. Make it possible for volunteers to directly access necessary website functions, such as uploading articles
3. Making and managing databases for volunteer information, refugee information, and files.
4. Getting familiar with modifying themes for the website
5. Make newsletter template, implement it in website construction
6. Photo gallery
7. Request and compile photos
8. Content: FAQs, media, bios, graphics art, and other articles

1. For making graphics, is it possible to get Adobe Photoshop somehow?
